VETERINARY QUERIES.

Anxious, Tapanui, writes to the effect that he owns a cow which has been to the bull several times and still comes in season. What is the cans© and remedy? The cow is four years old and healthylooking'. A number of cows in the distrtct are similarly . affected. 1 "Agri-cola" replies :—"lt would seem that contagious abortion ia prevalent in the .district, and it might be as' well, to ask the stock inspector, to gather- up further detaiils in 'connection with the trouble. Secure a. funnel and tube, and after washing hands in disinfectant, boil up some water and allow to cool to blood heat and wash put or -irrigate the vagina. Use one tabloid • of Burroughs and Welcome's corrosive sublimate tabloids in two pints.of warm water, and again in a week's time. If you are satisfied that there aro cases of abortion in your midst, . further precautions are- justified in respect '• to washing daily the rear parts of each pregnant cow an a disinfectant. The bull may be the cause of the trouble, ahd if so the sheath should be syringed out: before and after each service in disinfectant. The corrosive sublimate is poisonous, so care ; must be displayed in. handling same. Fetlocks, Miller's Flat, writes and asks for infprmatlion: in respect ' to. treatment of : an •" ;aged- horse which has a hard growth 'between the .hoof ahd .fetlock.
