LONDON WOOL SALES.
(By Cable.) LONDON, April 2. Tho wool sales opened sensationally. There was an enormous crowd of buyers, chiefly for the Home trade, with a' few French and Belgians. There were 10,290 bales catalogued, it being a capital selection of wool.
A fierce demand prevailed for merino combings and all fine crossbreds. /The new schedule prices were exceeded throughout—combing by 10 per cent., fine crossbreds by 16 per cent., and lower crossbreds by 5 to per cenjt. The competition furnishes evidence of urgent requirements to supply stocks of raw material so as to employ machinery. April 3. At the wool sales the competition was keen, especially by spinners and manufacturers, opening prices oeing fully maintained. Sales of clips included: Bladenburg—top price, 34d per pound; average, 32fd. Cashmere —top price. 42d; average, 31-id. . April 4. The Wool Controller announces that he proposes to establish wool auctions at Hull and Liverpool. At the wool sales there was very strong competition, and prices for choice wool were the highest hitherto reached. New Zealand clips realised up to 32d, and the average price- was 30d. Crossbreds—top price, 54d; average, 35d.
