WAIKAIA.

April 7. —Pine autumn weather has been experienced' during the past week. There have been some hea.vy frost and wind. Social. —Last Wednesday a farewell social was tendered to Mr and Mrs Cochrane, who have left Waikaia to live in Gore. The night was fine, and a large attendance resulted. Mir Cockrane was presented with a cheque, and Mr P. O'Reilly, who made the presentation, spoke highly of the departing, guest. M!r W. Christie- also spoke. Mr Cockrane is a first-class- piper, and was at one- time a member of the Dunedin Pipe Band. Mr Cockrane suitably replied, and during the evening gave two songs and some pipe music. Dancing was indulged in, and a very pleasant evening ended with the singing "of *' Atild lang syne." Roll of Honour.—The following is a list of the soldiers from "Waikaia and its environs who had made the supreme sacrifice:—J. Bryan, M. Benson, W. Busteridge, R. J. Cameron, D. Campbell, E. Dennis and family left by motor for Dunedin, where Mr George Dennis lies seriously ill.
