OTAGO HUNT CLUB.

The opening of the hunt season took place at Woodoaton on Saturday afternoon, under favourable conditions. The rendezvous is a picturesque spot for hunting, .as a good line of country is usually available, but, owing to the lateness of the. hardest, the line of country was limited. With the permission of Messrs M'Millan and M'Laren, the hunt managed to get in a run approximately two miles, and this was quite sufficient for the hounds, as many of them were green, though others too* up the scent immediately they were cast, and made the pace fast. Among the 19 horsemen was a lad of 12, who was in the lead from start to finish. There were frtvo spills during the run, fortunately without mishap. The huntsman (D. Wheeler) was ■well mounted, as also was the whip (E. Buddicomb), both of whom carried out their duties in a pleasing manner. The master (Mr J. A. Jordan) and deputy master (Mr J. Mowat) controlled the field. In the evening a meeting of the Hunt Executive was held for the purpose of considering the forthcoming race meeting. The

president (Mr B. Si Irwin) reported that the Racing Conference had agreed to the amended date (June 14). Various sub-com-mittees were 6et up, including an Entertainment Committee, with Mr R. Acton-Adams as convener. The chairman mentioned that the programme of eight events had been approved of by the Dunedin District Committee.
