The A team batting first compiled 189 for four wickets, when the innings was closed. The B team scored 90 for the loss of five wickets when play ceased. WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY. WELLINGTON, January 23. The Plunket Shield cricket match between Wellington (holders) and Canterbury (challengers) was commenced yesterday. The wicket was in pretty good condition. Wellington batted first, and made a total of 323. Canterbury had made 132 for the loss of three wickets when stumps were drawn. The match was resumed to-day. The weather had changed for the better overnight, and th© game was continued in bright sunshine on a good wicket. The wind was a trifle strong,_ but did not appear to make any appreciable difference to the play. Patrick and Guiney, who had made 42 not out and 6 not out _ respectively, continued Canterbury's' ? first innings, which closed with a total of 188 runs. The biggest contributor was Patrick, who had 43 to his credit before he was caught out by Becchey. 'Wellington's second attempt was poor, for they were dismissed in less than two-and-a-half hours of play for 163. With Wellington's total at 486, Canterbury had 299 runs to obtain to win. Shortly after 4.15 they went in to bat, and had made 129 for two wickets before 6 o'clock. WELLINGTON, January 24.

The match for the Plunkei Shield was concluded here to-day in fine weather and on a good wicket, and resulted in a win for Canterbury by seven -wickets. "When play ceased on the previous day Canterbury had made 129 for two wickets in their second innings, which left them 170 runs to get to win the match and recover the shield.

Jones and Patrick, the not out men, had made 67 and 21 respectively. Jones increased his soore to 88, and was then bowled by Hiddleston. Thomas joined Patrick, and these two set out to run up the necessary score This they succeeded in doing by consistently good batting, Patrick making 87, not out, and Thomas 72., not out. "Wellington's bowling-was rot strong, except for Hiddleston and Harris, and the fielding was poor. "When the game had been in progress for half an hour 160 showed on the telegraph.
