WELLINGTON. January 17. Whilo arresting a man in Cuba street last night, Constable Small was attacked from behind and struck on the. right check with a wharf labourer's doghook," which caused a wound that necessitated tho putting in of several stitches. His assailant was pursued by the constable, and it is alleged attempted to again put the dogliook into use, but was prevented b3' soldiers. Tho man, whoso name is David Leech Kinnear, was arrested on a charge of assault, and this morning ho was brought before Mr Frazer, S.M.. in tho Magistrate's Court, and remanded for a week.
