A Swedish concern, seeking to overcome the shortage of raw materials for soapmaking, has undertaken the manufacture of soap from sewer fat'by.a new method, and proposes also to use native vegetable fats from beech-mast, horse-chestnuts, and the like. • ■ The. United States Department of Agriculture announces that the largest experi-, mental plant in the United States for the . manufacture of fixed nitrogen from the air, - is now in operation at the Arlington experi- j mental farm of the Department of Agriculture, near "Washington. •A record catch of fish was recently made by the Kooraga, a Now South Wales State trawler. After only 39 hours' actual fishingtime the vessel landed no less a quantity than 964 baskets of edible fish. This represcnts 57,8401 b, or almost 26 tons.
