THE WEATHER.

Once again, with exasperating monotony the beautiful weather which'gladdened the heart, quickened the step and set the mind prearranging outdoor week-end recreations during the latter part of last week, changed to a dull, threatening sky early on Saturday morning, and indoor workers, who had been eagerly anticipating the enjoyment of some real sunshine in more satisfying quantities than that which filtered through odd windows, gazed hopefuhV but unavailingly at the gathering clouds which began to descend punctually at 1 p.m. The more optimistic souls continued to hope on for about an hour, but the heavy and unrelenting downpour at length convinced them, that they would have to carry out their week' end end arrangements next week —weather permitting. All bowling and cricket matches : were, of course, postponed for the second Saturday in succession. The thermometer, readings for Saturday were as follow:—0.30 a.m., 50deg.; 9 a.m., 65deg.; 11.30 a.m., 78deg,; 5 p.m., 40deg.; 11.30 p.m., cbdeg—showing a fall of 42deg in 12 hours. On Sunday,, the minimum was 35deg and thei maximum 64deg. Our Mosgiel correspondent states that and on Sunday. A mid-summer day yesterand yesterday. A mid-summer day yesterday was marked .by a coating of snow on Maungatua. m GALES IN CENTRAL OTA GO. (Fnou Ooe Own Correspondent ) CROMWELL. December 21.
