CHESS.
NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. At the adjourned annual meeting of the New Zealand Chess Association, held at Wellington, some discussion took place regarding the association's championship congresses, which have not been held since January, 1915, owing to the war It was generally considered that .as hostilities have come to an end these oongresses should be resumed as soon as possible. As the next championship meeting will be generallp known as New Zealand's " Peace Tourney," several delegates suggested Easter as the most appropriate time for holding the contest (Easter Monday falls on April 21). To put the mattor 'before the clubs Mr Connell moved that a Championship Congress be held next Easter, either at Wellington or at Masterton. Such a contest would re-establish.the championship title, which lapsed on January 1, 1916, for the first time since September 4, 1879, when the late Mr Henry Hookham became New Zealand's champion. Another meeting of the association is to be held on the 21st inst. to finally consider and determipe this matter. Mr Connell suggested that the association should consider the advisableness of issuing a monthly, or quarterly, publication, at a reasonable subscription. He thought that the matter might be easily arranged if the various affiliated clubs rallied round the scheme, in which case the paper should be self-supporting. It was decided to ask the various clubs now many probable subscribers they had in sight. Messrs James, Connell, W. Mackay, and_ the hon. secretary were appointed a committee to go into the matter.
