S.S. DELPHIC SUNK.
FIVE LIVES LOST. Waylaid by a German submarine in northern waters, the BCOO-ton cargo steamer Delphic, belonging to the White Star line, has, according to British papers, been sunk with the loss of five members, of the crew. The Delphic was a steel twin-screw steamer of 8273 tons gross register, built by Harland and Wolff (Ltd.), at Belfast in 1897- for the Oceanic Steam. Navigation Company, which directs the affairs of the White Star line, and watched our line. Possessing insulated chambers with a capacity of nearly 287,000 cubio feet, sho is remembered here chiefly by her work in the export of frozen meat. The Delphic on occasions carried passengers, and at the time of her destruction she was working under the Imperial Gov't ernment's liner requisitioning scheme, but' was being managed and operated by the company. _ J In ,tho latest published list of the Oceanio Steam Navigation Company's fleet, which was presented at the last meeting of directors, the names of the Britannic, Georgic, Laurentic, and Teutonic are omitted. The Georgio fell a victim to a raider, while the Laurentic, on January 30, struck a mine, and went down. This severe loss was followed on February 15 by the torpedoing of the Afric, 11,999 tons.
