THE ITALIAN FRONT.
Italian official reports state: After an intense bombardment tho enemy attacked, our new positions at Monte Carno, but were driven back wtiii heavy losses. Enemy attempts to renew attacks at Monte Carno were smothered.' The enemy’s third attempt on March 17 to recapture Mount Carno failed. Two columns, with machine guns and flame-throwers, strongly supported by artillery, attacked our positions. The attackers were caught under violent artillery and machine gun fire, and compelled to retire in confusion, and we firmly hold the positions. We repulsed numbers of attacks on other points along the front. A wireless Austrian official message states that tho ErancoTtalians attacked mountain positions between the Osum and Dcvoli Rivers, in Albania, and gained territory westward of Taorca. Italy has informed the United States, Government that the presence of American troops on tho Italian front is much desired. Italian officials feel that the sight of the American flag in Italy would have a good moral effect on the Italian troops and people. A few thousand American troops would be sufficient.
