BRUCE COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Bruce County Council, held on the 7th, was attended by Ors Scott (chairman), Begg, Hyslop, Clark, Boyd, Bell, Gardyne, Sinclair, Driver, and Sheat. The inspector's report was adopted, and it ■was decided to thank the settlers for the work they had done on the roads. CORBESPONDENCE. Mr A. Craig (chairman of the Greenfield Farmers' Union) wrote forwarding a resolution asking the council to have ■ nine chains of the Balclutha-Tuapeka Mouth road at Buchanan's, and a piece of the same road at Crookston bridge metalled. Mr J. Craig offered metal from his quarry free from royalty.—lt was decided to call for applications for nine chains of metalling at Buchanan's. Mr E. M'Lennan (Berwick) wrote stating that all the labour necessary for putting in the box at River Bank was available. The chairman reported that Mr M'Lennan had agreed to pay a third of the cost and do" all the carting.—The action of the committee associated with the chairman was approved. The Department of Internal Affairs forwarded consent to an application for permission to levy a rate on a uniform scale on the Boundary Creek Swamp drainage loan of £SOO. The Department of Lands and Survey wrote stating that there was a small piece of roadline in section 14, block XIII, Hillend district, which was unformed, unused, and led to nowhere. Section 14 was Crown land, and the department proposed to add the piece of unused roadline to it. —It was decided to offer no objection. Mr IS. E. Green (Taieri Mouth) wrote complaining of the flooded state of the Swamp road, and asking that the low part be raised for two or three chains.—Left in the hands of Cr Bell and'the engineer. Messrs Adams Bros., solicitors, wrote on behalf of Messrs Robertson (Moneymore) complaining that a new culvert put in by the council had brought down a considerably increased quantity of flood water, which would inevitably cause their client's properties to be flooded. In that case they would bo compelled to make claims for substantial damages or compensation.—The Chairman said that all the council had done was to put in a 2ft 6in pipe in place of a smaller one.—lt was decided that the matter be placed in the hands of the council's solicitors. GENERAL. The ranger reported having found 44 oattle and six horses wandering during April. The statement of receipts and expenditure for April showed receipts amounting to £4BB Os Bd, and a total expenditure of £757 6s 2d. - The Chairman stated that at the end of the financial year the council had a credit balance of £ll4. This was somewhat less than tho balance 12 months ago., but it showed that tho council was looking well after tho ratepayers' money. Tho matter of arranging an exchange of land in connection with the rectification of Dorward's road was left in the hands of tho chairman.

It was decided to accept tho offer of 1000 yards of metal at 6s 3d from the Balclutha Borough Council, and the offer of Leonard Bros, to cart this metal from Balolutha to tho Stony Creek School at 6s a yard.

At the request of tho Valuation Department. Mr P. Porter was nominated to act on behalf of the council as a member of tho Assessment Court, in dealing with properties in Gleiiledi. Crichton, and Kaitangata ridings, and Cr Bovd was asked to airange for an assessor for the M'atau and IfiChclutha ridings.
