TAIERI COUNTY COUNCIL

The meeting, held on Friday, was presided over by Cr Christie. A motion of sympathy was passed to the family of the late Mr Gibson (ex-chairman) and to Cr Doherty and family in .their bereavement caused through the death of his son at the battle front.

The Finance Committee reported that the expenditure for Apr;! was £l4_o 9s 9d, and the receipts £llß 15s 3d. The bank book showed a credit balance of £3791 9s. It recommended' that the quarry prices far stone be brought into line with Duncdin prices.—Adopted. 'ilio Valuation Department asked for the name and address of a person who would act on behalf of the council as a member of the Assessment Court in connection with <the revaluation of East Taieri, North Taieri, Kaikorai, and Oick.a Ridings.—Mr J. T. Gibson was appointed. If Mr Gibson should not be able to act, the chairman and clerk will arrange the matter. The Inspector of Mines advised that provision was beiiicr made for the expenditure of £l5O on the Reefs Railway road, and he asked the council to submit plans and specifications. —Noted.

A number of ratepayers of Maungatua and Momona petitioned the council to have Dan Miller's road metalled.—Formation work to be proceeded with, metalling to bo carried out when metal available.

Mr L. C. Hazlett applied to have certain roads intersecting his property closed and transferred to him. These roads served no purpose, and he could not at present prevent undesirable trespass across his land.— Hold over till Cr Findlay was present. Mary Ewart applied for permission to shift a house from North Taieri to Mosgiel. Granted. j

Mr R. J. B. Runciman wrote regarding the formation of a road on Bedford parade, Brighton. The residents were prepared to subscribe only £25. —It was resolved to tako the £25, and the engineer was instructed to spend £SO on formation and gravelling. Permission was granted to car owners at Middlemareh to ply for hire locally on May

16 and 17 in the interests of the Hed Triangle Day.

The Engineer drew attention to the gap in the embankment at Gibson's Farm, Riverside, left by the flood last winter. The route was all on good country, and would not be liable to damasre from Rood. —It was decided to assist the city in its endeavours to get a road to the power house.
