The Prime Minister states (says a Press Association telegram from Wellington) that 48 applications have been received from retail butchers in connection with the supply of meat from the freezing works for sale to the public. The applications came from Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Wanganui, Southland, Ota-go, Taranaki, and Gißborne. Forty-two permits have been granted, and inquiries are being made re* carding the other applications.
