A VECTORIAN TRAGEDY.

(By Cable.) A mysterious tragedy has occurred at Trawool, Victoria, On November 10 a cabman drove Mrs Taylor and her 12-year-old step-daughter to Trawool, where the woman stated that she was going to nurse her sister. Subsequently their bodies, with the heads smashed in, were found in the Goulburn River. A sum of £152 was sewn into the woman's underclothing. A nhotograph of a soldier named Arthur Oldring was discovered amongst the woman's belongings, and was recognised as that of a man who has been missing from Scvmour Camp. He was seen in the vicinity of the tragedy. Oldring has been arrested. As a seqiiel to the Trawool tragedy, f.rs Jessie Brown, sister of Arthur Oldring, poisoned herself, and died in hospital.

At a Sunday night meeting at Napier the following resolution was unanimously carried : That this meeting _of two citizens of Napier desires to enter its emphatic protest against the appointment of tho Hon. A. L. Hcrdman, Attorney-general, to tho position of Supremo Court Judge, holding that his political past proves his total incapacity for impartial judgment; and, further, that this meeting expresses its conviction that such an appointment will weaken tho popular faith and respect in the administration of the law." The Luna flaxmill at West Wanganui, owned by Tasker and Levien, Nelson, was Sartially destroyed by firo last Wednesay. Six tons of flax, valued at approximately £3OO, were burned.
