At the Dargaville Magistrate's Court last week, a Kaitue settler was convicted and fined for " bleeding" kauri trees in a Crown forest in the Kaipara survey district. It was pointed out that in " bleeding ' the trees, which was done in order to procure gum, defendant had endangered thousands of pounds' worth of national property.
