BETTING PROSECUTIONS.

WANGANUI, August 8.

The magistrate (Mr Hewitt), after hearing evidence against Patrick Bourke. Daniel Sullivan, and John Shore, convicted them of loitering in Victoria avenue at the last Wanganui race meeting for the purpose of betting. Bourke was fined £2O, Sullivan £2O, and Shore £25. Fines inflicted in cases previously heard were: William Ryan, of Auckland, £100; Robert Ryan, of Auckland, £SO; and David Ross, of Wellington, £75. The magistrate fixed as security for appeal the fines to be paid into court, with costs (10 guineas) in each case.
