The grain market has gone from bad to worse this week so far as business is concerned. Not a single transaction in wheat has been discoverable by diligent inquiry. In oats there lias been little doing. The only description for which*there is much request are heavy Cartons suitable for seed or milling purposes, and these are rarely met with. A few lots, however, changed hands at country stations at 4s net. Some small lines of light feed Gartons were taken at 3s 6d net, at country stations, and 3s 7d not. delivered. Potatoes have come to a standstill, no business being reported during the week.

CHRTSTCHURCII MARKETS. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 10. A few small lots of wheat have been coming forward from the North Canterbury district which had apparently only been lately thrashed, there having been difficulty in. securing a machine earlier. The grain market is exceedingly quiet; in fact, there is very little- business doing in any line of produce. The potato market is still lifeless. The sending forward to tho North Island on consignment of a considerable quantity of potatoes from the south has affected the market. Apparently these potatoes have como from areas that were flooded six

weeks ago, and the condition is therefore not verv satisfactory. When these supplies have been reduced it is hoped the market may improve In .the meantime there are few local sellers, and buyers are indifferent about making purchases at any price. There is still a keen demand for seed potatoes. Ordinary white varieties arc worth about £3; guaranteed Up-to-Dates, £3 15s; Breeze's Prolific, £4; British, £5; and early varieties such as Robin Adair, Beauty oi Hebron, and Early Rose, £8 per ton.
