A MYSTERIOUS CASE.
HAMILTON, July 9. A mysterious affair occurred at Frankton, whereby a returned soldier named Thomas Henderson was seriously injured. The polices were communicated with yesterday afternoon, and thoy found the young man lying in Tapp's stables, suffering great pain. He was removed to the hospital. On examination it was found that there was a wound on the left side of the lower rib 3in deep, and penetrating the lung. The man's depositions were taken. He stated that his name was Thomas Henderson, of Selwyn street, Onehunga, and that he was a returned soldier. He arrived in the district a few weeks ago from Palmerston North. He had been drinking, and was unable to account for the presence of the wound. Examination of his clothing showed a round hole in his singlet, but no corresponding hole in either vest, shirt, or coat, indicating that he had not been wearing these when the wound was inflicted. An operation was performed. Henderson's condition is precarious.
