LAWPORD, HAROLD WILLIAM L.-cpl. (Mrs W. P. Carson, Auckland, mother). News has been received of the death in notion, in Egypt, of Captain -ti-oy Priest, youngest son of Mr William Priest, of Timaru. Deceased, who was a captain in the 15th New Zealand Imperial Camel Corps, was a member of the South Canterbury Mounted Rifles, in which no held rank as corporal. Wnen the war broke out ho was very eag_cr to serve, and left with the Main Body. In camp ho. was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He was in the August attack at Gallipoli, and was wounded in tho leg. After recovering ho rejoined his regiment, and soon was promoted to second lieutenant. It was not long before his advancement to a first lieutenancy followed on his joining tho Camel Corps in Egypt, and on tho death of Captain M'Callum he was made captain. Deceased was all through tho Gallipoli campaign. He was in every fight in Egypt since tho evacuation of the Peninsula, and had' some narow escapes. Captain Hoy Priest, who was 26 years of age, was educated at tho Timaru Main and Timaru Boys' High Schools. Ho afterwards took to farming, and when he loft for tho war was managing Miss Priest's sheep run on the Tripp Settlement.
