KAITANGATA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) KAITANGATA, April 20. A sitting- of the Magistrate's Court was held at Kaitangata on Thursday, Mr R. x\cheson, S.M., on the bench. Leaving a Moving Train.—Thomas Thomson, for this offence at Stirling, was fined 20s, with costs (7s). Falling to Notify Changed Address.—Alex. Barron was charged with failing at Matau to notify his change of address to the Government Statistician. —Defendant, who is a married man with three children, was fined Is, with costs (14s 6d). The electric light scheme is now an accomplished fact. On Anzac Day it is hoped to have it turned on. Cr J. Cairns has been appointed Mayor of Kaitangata, and the following have been nominated councillors:—Messrs G. Middlemass, H. Cuthbertson, and A. Chapman. Owing to Cr Pennoll's retirement an election will not be necessary. At the local Methodist Church on Thursday evening a social was held for the purpose of welcoming the Rev. Pearn, the new pastor. The Rev. R. B. James, of Balclutha, presided. The following contributed items:—Messrs W. F. Bennetts, F. Edwards, Miss Kernohan (recitation), Mrs Martin (song). Misses Sim and Rowle and Messrs Stevenson and Sim (quartette), J. Weir (recitation), and a number of anthems were rendered by the choir. Welcome speeches were made by the Rev M'Dowell and the chairman. Mr Pearn gave an impressive address to the people. Mr W. Stevenson made a presentation of a books to Miss T. Burnard, who is leaving the district. The recipient suitably replied. Refreshments were dispensed by the ladies.
