It is understood that the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company at present has an expert inspecting the various streams in tho district with tho object of ascertaining thenadaptability for producing electrical power. A meeting of workers of Mataura passed the following resolution, a copy of which has been 6ent to Mr G. J. Anderson, M.P. for Mataura:—" That this meeting of workers engaged in the various industries in Mataura desires to _ emphatically protest against tho increase in the cost of living, such increase, in the opinion of this meeting, being out of all proportion to the increase in wages. We are compelled, in self defence, and in defence of our families, to request the Government, as representatives of tho people, to come to our assistance, by reducing the cost of tho necessaries of life."
