FIRES.
BLUFF, January 19. About midnight fire was discovered in Mackerras and Hazlett's bulk store. The flames quickly spread to the premises of Nichol Bros., Thomson and Co., J. E. Watson, and tho Council Chambers, all these buildings being completely destroyed. The area covered was nearly three acres. The buildings were old, and constructed mainly of wood. They contained valuable stocks of produce, wines, and spirits. So far as can be ascertained, the insurances on Thomson and Co.'s building, stock, and plant are £2530, on Mackerras and Hazlett's stock £9GO, and on Watson's plant and stock £7550. A Press Association message from Wellington states that a fire considerably damaged a four-storey brick warehouse in Dixon street, owned by Coopers, seedsmen, who occupied threo floors. The Kodak Australasia occupied tho second floor, in which tho fire started. The insurances aro:—On the building. £12.000; Coopers' stock, £IB,OOO, both in the NewZealand office. Tho Kodak's losses aro heavy, but tho amount of insurance in tho Allianco is not known yet.
