During 1916 there were 117 fires in Auckland citv. <".') increase, of nine over the number in 1915 (says the New Zealand Herald). " Don't you 'think your mother would bo woman enough to stand the shook of parting from you when she knows you arc going to do your duty to your country?" was the question put to an appellant at the Military Service Board on the 28th ult. (says the Dominion). The appellant was reminded that many a loving mother had had to make the great sacrifice of purling with her son.
