TIMARU MARKETS.
(Christchureh Tress, November 11.)
Notwithstanding the holiday spirit pervading the district during Carnival Week, the market for wheat has maintained its firmness, and inquiry is more general. Offerings have boon very limited, and this has made buyers keener. Tuscan to-day is worth 5s 4d, delivered Timaru; Hunters 5s 6d, and Velvet (nominally) 5s 8d to 5s 9d, delivered. There has been a fairly good local demand for oats, and a few South Canterbury grown lines have been offering. Sales of Duns have been made at 2s lOd, country stations, while Cartons have change'd hands at 2s 9d and 2s lOd. There is also a good demand for oaten sheaf chaff, mostly from North Otago, but the value has not increased owing to _ lower quotations from Southland, where it is procurable in large quantities at about £3 10s on trucks, country stations. The quality of the Southland chaff, however, does not compare favourably with local lines, which are worth about 10s to £3 15s, on trucks, country stations. The market for barley is quiet but firm. Stocks are practically nil, and 5s 6d to 5s 9d, delivered Timaru, ia tho value of lines suitable for malting.
