CHARGE OF BIGAMY.

AUCKLAND, October 6. In the Police Court to-day Alfred Wiley, a returned soldier, was committed for trial on a charge of bigamy, in that at Hamilton, on June 3, 1914. he went through tho form of marriage with Clare Emily Walker, his first wife being still alive. Detective Cummmgs stated that the accused, when arrested, admitted that he had been married before, but had not seen his first wife for 10 years when he married the second one. Clare Walker deposed that the accused enlisted as a single man, without telling her that he had made no provision for her. She went to Wellington and saw the accused, who made an allotment order in her favour. She received this money until the accused returned from the war last November. Later she met him at Wellington, and left him owing to remarks made- by the accused's sister about him to tho effect that he had been married before.
