NATIONAL APPLE SHOW.
Matters in connection with the 1917 National Apple Show continue to take moredefinite shape.' The show will be held in the Brydono Hall, opening on May 1, and continuing for four days, the whole of the net proceeds to be devoted to patriotic purposes. When it is understood that Brydone Hall covers a floor space of roughly half an acre, and that it is anticipated this will barely suffice to accommodate the exhibits from'the various provinces, .some idea will be gained as to the galaxy of luscious fruit which will be displayed. 'Messrs A. Davidson and John Bonnets have just returned from Wellington after attending the first meeting of the newly-formed executive of the New Zealand Fruit-growers' Federation (under whose auspices tho show will be hold), and th'ev report that in Auckland, Hawke's Bay, Nelson, and Canterbury preparations are already well in hand strongly to support the show. In the provincial displays some striking and unique designs are promised. While the show will bring home to the casual observer the enormous development of the fruit-growing industry, it is hoped it will also be the means of educating the consumer as to the beneficial properties of fruit in general, and apples in particular, as an article of diet. With a view to augmenting the patriotic funds as much as possible, no prize money will be accepted by the exhibitors, although the provincial display competitions alone will represent many hundreds of pounds expenditure by the various associations. Tho Show Committee is justified in anticipating that the public will flock in thousands to a show which has such commendable objects in view.
