DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS.
The present festival of 1916 marks the fifteenth year of the society's existence. In 1913 the outbreak of war affected the- society considerably, and the funds it was accumulating were lost during the past two years. The prize money has been reduced to a minimum, and the festival will be held in the Burns Hall instead of His Majesty's' Theatre, thereby still further reducing the expenses. Competitors have rallied round the society, and a most satisfactory entry has been received. The male sections, as must be ex pected, show a falling off. The society has still a fairly largo liability to meet, and it looks with confidence to the public to see that it is not faced with a further loss this year. An attractive programme has been urranged for each session. Mr Harold Grcigson (Auckland) will judge the musical sections, and Mr John H. Hopkins (Melbourne) the elocution sections. Mr Sidney Wolf will judge the fife and drui.i band section, while several Dunedin ladies and gentlemen have undertaken the judging of the remaining competitions.
