A REGIMENTAL MASCOT'S PATHETIC FIDELITY. For the sake of "Rona," the Groat Dane mascot of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, one of the inflexible rules of the Fourth London General Hospital lias been relaxed under remarkable circumstances. Among the patients in the hospital is a member of the mounted rifles, to whom the.dog had become greatly attached. Missing her friend from the regiment, "Rona" became inconsolable, and for throe days refused food, although dainties of many kinds were pressed upon her. The trooper himself, on learning of "Rona's" nnhappiness. was greatly concerned, and in the interests of both man and dog the hospital authorities consented to the dog being brought to the hospital, where there was a pathetic meeting between the friends. "Rona" is now "on the strength," and wears an official identification disc, carried on a silver chain subscribed by the regiment. Photo by Central News.
