KAITANGATA NOTES.
KAITAXGATA, September 4. Something in the nature oi a surprise greeted the large attendance present at the monthly Band oi Hope concert in the church hall on Friday evening. A capital programme, too numerous to mention individually, was provided by the scholars. The Rev. Air APDowall acted as chairman, whilst the Rev. .Messrs Webster and Burnard made short speeches in reference to social evils. A collection was taken up to defray the expenses of the Band of Hope meetings. The annual meeting of the Bowling Club was held on Wednesday, Mr D. P. Clements presiding, in the unavoidable absence of the president (Captain Rutherford). The balance sheet showed a small credit balance, which was considered satisfactory. It was reported that nine members had left and joined the Expeditionary Forces. The following officers wore elected : —President, Captain Rutherford; vice-president, Mr E. M'Fadyen; secretary and treasurer. Air J. Pryde; committee —Messrs I). Coulter, T. Sharp, W. Duncan, A. Blackie, A. Eclniiston. D. P. Clements; auditors, Alessrs T. Alicldlcmass and E. P. Lavery. Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, sot in hero this morning. It oasei;! a little later in the day, but a boisterous wind commenced to blow. The annual meeting of the Tennis Club was hold on Friday. Mr J. T. Ramsay presiding. The club has had a very satisfactory year, there being a credit balance of £4 13s 2d. Several members were serving at the front at present. Air A. S. Gillanders was elected president for the ensuing year.
