THE DAIRY INDUSTRY.
I (From Our North Island Correspondent) ANNUAL MEETINGS IN THE NORTH. Tho annual meeting of the Riverdale Cooperative Dairy Company (South Taranaki) was attended by about 55 shareholders. The report and balance sheet showed that, after making the usual provisions, there was a net credit balance of £6473 12s Id, whilst tho general store showed a net profit of £5Ol 17s lid. A further payment of 2d per lb for butter-fat was made, besides dividends. The following statistics show the operations of the year: —Lbs milk, 19,808,873; lbs butter-fat, 761,917; lbs cheese made, 1.903.503; lbs creamery butter made, 57,877; lbs whey butter made, 37 688; lbs chcoso per lb butter-fat, 2.67; lbs milk per ib cheese, 9.74; lbs milk per lb butter, 21.7; over-run, 17; average test for season, 3.847; average payment for season, 19.874 d. —Alton Tho annual report of tho Alton Dairy Company stated that payments had been made for the past season at Is 5d per lb for butter-fat. There was a balance at credit of appreciation account amounting to £5078 9s lOd. The statistics showed: Lbs milk, 8,672,350; lbs cheese, 849,790; milk to cheese, 10.201 b; cheese to butter-fat-, 2.6071 b; test, 3.675; weight- of cheese, 379 tons 18e\vt; butter, 76831 b; whev butter 19,6561 b. —Waihcu Valley.— During the past season the Waihou Valley Dairv Company made 250 tons of cheese, which is an increase of 159 tons over the first season's output. The profit and loss account shows a balance of £5467 19s, due to suppliers. The balance payments, which at tho annual meeting it was decided to make, brought the payments to suppliers up to Is lid per lb for the whole season, August 1, 1915, to May 31, 1915. The Chairman, in the course of his address, stated that in May of this year arrangements were concluded with Joseph Nathan for the manufacture of glaxo. The agreement was for 12 years, and a leading point is that Is 3d per lb is the minimum price to bo paid during the term. The capital of tho company is to be increased from £SOOO to £15.000 to meet the additions to the factory. ■ —Lepperton.— Tho twenty-fourth annual meeting of the Lepperton Dairy Company was held on I Monday night. Tho annual report showed i that there was a surplus of £1723 19s. Butter made amounted to 102 tons 3owt lqr 131 b; milk received 4,517,0581 b; cream received, 14,585ib; butter-fat, 195,8021 b; butter made, 223,8571 b; average test, 4.18; over-run, 16.9; advance, 14.105(1; bonus. 2d; interest, .090 d; total. 16 l-95d. In reply to questions, tho Chairman st;ited that the butter-milk was sold on a three years' contract at tho ratoof l|d for. every 1001 b of milk that came into the factory. —Grcytown-Wairarapa,— The Grcytown-Wairarapa Company's annual report states that the whey butter plant has proved even more profitable than in tho previous year, for the net profit, after writing off one-seventh of tho original cost, is £531, which is equal to id per Ib of • butter-fat against 2-5 d the previous year. During tho season 6.912,1581 b of milk were received, yielding 251.9521 bof fat, from which 635,6391 b (303 tons) of cheese and 18,1231 b (8 tons 2cwt) of whey butter were made. '1 he amount advanced to suppliers totals £16,796 15s 4d. and there now remains a balance of £5332 13s lid to the credit of appropriation account. Should cheese unsold at this date realise tho price anticipated the payment for butter-fat will be the record price of Is 9d per lb. —Tikorangi.— The twenty-first annual report of tho Tikorangi Dairy Company stated that, in addition to the interim bonus paid in May, there was a balance of £612 10s available , for distribution. The following statistics were also supplied with the report: —Milk received, 6,465.1631 b: cream received. 177,3571 b: butter-fat from milk. 258.7171 b; butter-fat, from cream, 61,1441 b; butter made. 363,4381 b; average milk test, 4.0; pounds of milk to produce lib of butter, 22; net value per lb of butter-fat, 14.71 d.
