WAIHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Waihemo County Council was held on Saturday. Present: \Crs Pilbiow (chairman), O'Neill, M'Lonnan, Mathesoh, M'Uallum, M'Lay, O'Conncll, CONDOLENCE. The Chairman, prior to the commencement of tho ordinary business, referred to the death of Cr " Muir, which took place shortly after the last meeting of the council. He said that Cr Muir had represented the Bushey Hiding for 29 years, and had rendered good service for-'tho ratepayers. He moved: " That this council place on record its appreciation of. tho valuable services rendered to the county, by the late Mr Tlios. Muir—services extending over a period of 29 years. The lato Mr Muir iirst A entered the council in the year 1887 as one of the representatives of Blue Mountain Riding, and continued in that capacity till tho year 1908—a period of 21 years; and for eight years of this term lie was also chairman of tho council. Having disposed of his interest in Blue Mountain, he; did not seek re-election in 1908, but at the general election of councillors in 1914 he was elected as the representative of Bushey Riding, and acted as such until his sudden and unexpected death. They also deeply deplore the loss of such a valuable member of the council, and sincerely sympathise with his sorrowing widow and family in the severe affliction they have been so suddenly called on to endure, and that the council adjourn for 15 minutes out of respect to his memory."— Cr O'Neill seconded tho motion, which was carried, the councillors standing. REPORT.!. The County Inspector reported that general surface work had been carried out in the Bushey, Goodwood, Macraes, .Blue Mountain, Mcadowbank, and Dunback Hidings. Maintenance metal had been placed on tho Bushey-Palmerston road. About 30 yards of metal were required near Pleasant River bridge. The work of widening the road near the Lodge would cost about £25. Shag Point road was in a very bad state, and would have to be attended to. Good work- llad been done on the Brooklands road by the grader, and metal was required for this road, which was in a bad state. Repairs had been effected to the creek crossings in the Green Valley Riding, and planks wore required for the Happy Creek crossing. ' Owing to the recent wet weather the work necessary at CotfcereH's property iiad not been started. 'lenders had been called for certain format ion work on the Taieri Peak road. The report was adopted. THE UROOKLANDS HOAD. Mr Aitchison waited upon the council, and asked that something bo done to improve the condition of Brooklands road. — On the motion of Cr M'Callum, ir. was decided that when funds were available this road would be repaired as requested. CORRESPONDENCE. Air A. D. Bell wrote stating thai the last flood had partially displaced the two bridges over the Happy Valley Creek, at V.'aihemo. Ho would give the council's surfaceman whatever assistance lie required to restore the bridges if a new plank were provided. GENERAL. The Secretary of the Treasury Department forwarded a credit note for £l2 6s 9d, being goldfields revenue for the month of June. — Received. Accounts amounting to £207 18s lid were passed for payment.
