THE FUND CLOSED. (To the Editor Otago Daily Times.) Sir,—On June 8 you kindly extended to the Navy League the hospitality of your columns for acknowledging any sums received by us as the result of our appeal fofr financial help to the prosperous people of this community on behalf of the dependents of those seamen who throughout_ the wayhave lost their lives in active service. Since that date the sum of £5937 Os 3d has been received by us, which, with the amount simultaneously received by your, self (£6150 15s 8d). making a total of £12.087 16s Id, has been collected without further appeal (save a most successful street collection) than that by way of the post and press. This return wo regard as most creditable to the citizens of this town and province, and, as far as the Navy League is con« corned, is in part an expression of the secure hold the truth that "the navy is the Empire's sure shield ; ' has taken of tha public mind. It may be of interest to mention that of the Otago branch's total direct receipts. the sum of £532 7s was received from 115 public and private schools of this province. The largest sum received from a single school was £36 10s, and the smallest 3s 6d* We shall pr-jbably roiaive further sums, which, though promiseu. have not yet coma to hand, and these will be duly acknowledged and forwarded to London; but our appeal and our list are now closed. Again thanking you, believe us, yours gratefully, J. A. Jciixstone. Vice-president. Charles Darling, Hon. Secretary. Duncdin, Juno 20. CmiTSTCHUECH, June 30.
