WOUNDED SOLDIERS AND SAILORS
APPEAL FOR FUNDS
WELLINGTON, June 28.
Tho Governor lias received tho following telegraphic appeal from the Marquis of Lan&downe and tho Earl of Plymouth, as representing the British Red Cress Society and tho Order of Saint John of Jerusalem in England, which his Excellency hopes will meet with the same generous response as did the appeal of last year, when contributions from New Zealand amounted to £17,684 lis 2d. "I have tho honour to inform you that tho British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John are onoo more proposing to appeal throughout tho Empire, by street and other collections, upon 'Our Day,' which has been fixed for October 19. The money received will bo devoted entirely to our wounded soldiers and sailors, :lrom Homo and overseas, at tho various seats of war. Tho generous response which wo received last year from all parts of the King's dominions encourages us to hope that the constantly increasing demands for our help may be met by a corresponding increase of generosity throughout the Empire. We shall bo truly grateful to you if you will assist our work by organising an appeal and sending tho proceeds to us for the sick and wounded at the front. Their Majesties tho King and Queen, and her Majesty Queen Alexandra; are giving us their gracious patronage, and they trust that you Will also be able to see your way to help us in the samo splendid manner as you did last year, and that wo may have the invaluable assistance also of Lady LiverP °(Signecl) Landsdowno (President of the British Red Cross Society).
