WAR AND WAR TAXATION.
WELLINGTON, May 30. Mr Atmore, ex-member for Nelson, addressed a largo meeting in the Town Hall on “War and War Taxation.” At the conclusion the following motion by Mr Webb, the member for Grey, was carried That the meeting requests the National Government to prove its representative name by taking immediate steps to relieve the people from the cruel pressure of the excessive cost of living by fixing prices and placing war taxation on war profits.” A motion by Mr IT. E. Holland was also carried: —“That, in view of the fact that the voluntary system has not failed, this mhoting condemns the Conscription Bill before the House as one of the worst forms of Prussian militarism.”
