PALMERSTON NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON. June 5. Since the County Council passed the new motor by-laws the inspector has been quite busy with candidates for the certificate of ability. Nearly all the local motorists now hold a certificate. The monthly stock sale was held last Monday, when the number of stock offered was much smaller than usual. The prices, however, were high, there being keen competition for the lots put up. On Friday night the most severe frost felt in Palmerston for a number of years occurred. Many taps burst through the frost, and in some cases no water was available for several hours after sunrise on Saturday. The dog trials, which arc to be held near Dunback on Wednesday and Thursday, promise good sport, and are sure to bo well attended. The committee has spared no efforts to make the programme attractive. it is proposed to arrange some kind of a public reception to all the local men w’ho nave returned from the front. A meeting for that purpose is to be held this week in the Town Hall.
