CLERGYMAN MURDERED
SYDNEY, June 3. The Rev. Mr Metcalfe, an Anglican clergyman, was found unconscious on the roadside, en route to his home, after holding a service near Burrowa. His head was battered, and he succumbed to his injuries later. A swagman named Murtagh Murphy was found lying near Mr Metcalfe. He was unconscious, and when he recovered consciousness he was in a demented condition, and had to be removed to an asylum. He professed ignorance of Mr Metcalfe's condition. At the inquest a verdict of murder war brought in against Murphy.
