EDUCATION BOARD

A meeting of the Otago Education Board was held on the ist inst.. and was attended by Messrs D. T. Fleming (chairman),. Scott, Borrie. Livingstone, Wallace, Smith, Mitchell, Brugh, and M'Kinky. _ Miss MTlutcheson wrote resigning her position as cookery teacher. An application from the Concord School Committee for a subsidy on the cost of asphalting at the school was referred to the architect for a report. The department forwarded copies of regulations regard hi<r the grading of teachers, with a request that they be sent to all certificated teachers. —It was decided to comply with the request. Miss Hogg was appointed teacher at the Evans Flat School. SALARIES AND ALLOWANCES. In December last the director of education sent out a memorandum in reference to the salaries and allowances of pupil teachers, probationers, and Training College students, the effect of which would be that the payment of students would commence in February instead of January as heretofore. After a general discussion, it. was decided to interview the Minister ns to the withholding of the January payment, and also as to the inadequate payment of pupil teachers and probationers. The Senior Inspector submitted a report on school books, which was unanimously adopted. .
