WAIWERA.

May 15. —The weather is still very fine—in fact, it is more like early spring than winter. The gardens I have lately visited ore a blaze of beautiful flowers. The paddocks, too, have the appearance of springtime —indeed, everything at present looks fresh and flourishing. Stock in most cases are in the pink of condition. Patriotic. —Our brave boys continue to enlist for the front, while, happily, some are arriving home, if not sound, with their lives spared. It is to be hoped that these heroes will bo allowed to enjoy the remainder of their lives in peace, knowing frill well they have done their duty for King and country. The Farm. —Farm work is being pushed on with all possible speed, the land being in excellent trim for ploughing. Like in other narts. hands are scarce; but all seem to take things as best they can under the circumstances, and .are doing the work that is possible with the available strength. On taking a look around T notice there are splendid crops of turnips generally—some very fine indeed; and with chaff and oats so low in price there is a pood time in ?iere for the stock so far as feed is concerned. General.—Our Taumata friends lately held their annual dog trial, which was quite a success. These social gatherings are much appreciated, and are most valuable in their way. —T understand that the people of the district recently presented Mr and Mrs C. Roscvearo with tokens of esteem on their leaving the district for the north. Thev also leave with the good wishes from all fo'- their future prosperity.—At the last Clinton sale sheep sold remarkably well, but cattle did not seem to be so brisk.
