OTAGO A. & P. SOCIETY
WINTER SHOW. Excellent entries have been received for the forthcoming Winter Show, which will open in Dunedin on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 30. In the cattle and theep classes some splendid exhibits will be seen. Entries in factory cheese are good, considering that the totals of last year constituted a record for the society. In the fruit section excellent entries have been made, and the display which will be staged should prove one of the most interesting features of the show. The entries in the. homo industries' section are wonderful, and the judges will have no little difficulty in making their awards. The quality of the grain will bo good, and some excellent exhibits of wheat, oats, and barley will be seen. The entries in roots will also make. a tine display. The show of potatoes promises to be one of the best yet seen in the* society's buildings, and the quality will be of the best. A goodly number of entries have been made from school gardens, and it is pleasing to note the interest that is being taken in those classes by the various schools in the province. There will be one farmer's bay exhibited, which, in itself, should prove most interesting - . One of the most interesting, educative, and attractive displays will doubtless be that set up by the Fields Division. Department of Agriculture under the direction of Mr A. Macpherson. A number of the most interesting cxhibiis displayed at the Panama Exposition will be on view in the show for the first time in New Zealand. This year a more than usually interesting collection will be that from the transAntarctic expedition's steam yacht Aurora, consisting of Captain Scott's tent and sledge, ski-stieks, ice axes, and shovels, samples of clothing, stuffed birds, photo graphs, coloured sketches of huge ico ridges, and of the Emperor and Adelio penguins, and seal life. Tho exhibition of dairying and other ma-
chinery promises to be an unusually attractive one, while the display of motor cars, and the most up-to-date petrol driven vehicles promises to be quite a feature of the show. Numerous stands for the display and sale of articles of utility and ornament will be seen, as usual, and the leading manufacturing firms in Dunedin will again demonstrate what can be turned out from the factories in this city. The committee has decided to extend the ehow to include Saturday, June 3. the entire proceeds of that clay to be devoted to the funds of the Otago Women's Patriotic Association. The catering of the show for tho five days will be undertaken by the above association, for the benefit of its funds. As a large influx of visitors to Smedin is expected, the committee invites 030 who have accommodation to communicate with the secretary. The following is a comparative statement
