EARLY SETTLERS' ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Early Settlers' Association was held in the board room on th- 14th; present —Messrs D. fteid (in the chair), Duthie, Nicolson, Ferens, Hazlett, l J rouctfoot, Mrs Hayward, and Mra Barnes. Votes of thanks were passed to the following for gifts to the museum:—Mrs Woodhouse, framed photographs of opening of the new Supreme Court, Mr Justice Johnston, and a picture of old Auckland; Mrs Anderson, picture of Wellington in 1840; Mrs J. Gray, framed photograph of the late Robert and Mrs Campbell; Mr R. S Allan, photographs of two Judges Chapman (father and son), copy of Otago Daily Times of March 23, 1597; from an unknown donor, an old collar and hames said to have been used at the Crimean war. The following deaths were noted: —Mrs W. M. Bolt (72), Nelson, 1863; Sir Joshua S. Williams (78), Derwent Water, 1861; Andrew M'Kerrow (74), Dunedin. 1864; David Nicol (67). Strathmore, 1856; L. Moter (86), arrived 1863; P. Young (86), Sevilla, 1859; A. ladale (86), Alpine, 1859; E. Braclshaw (74), Gabriel's Gully, 1861; J. S. Adams (73), arrived 1863; Mrs Mary Thompson (82), arrived 1863; W. Allan (85), Victory, 1863; Mrs Anne Pcdon (63), Strathmore, 1856; Mrs Fa<ran (79), arrived 1c63;l c 63; Mrs Wynne, arrived 1858; Jns. Kennedy (86). Red Jacket. 1863; A. Bell (60). Alpine, 1859; Mrs I. Moore (70). John W'ckliffe, 184tf : Miss Gardner (85), Stratfieldsaye, 1858; W. 11. Davidson (79). Alpine, 1859; Mrs Patersnn (83). arrived 1862; A. D. Syme (85), arrived 1860: A E. T. Dovoro (73)', arrived 1862: John Kay, arrived 1861. Thirteen new members were enrolled. It was resolved to hold a reunion of members on March 23. The committee expressed regret at the loss which the association had sustained by the death of Mrs Peden. for many years a member of the committee, and nn_ honoured and useful member of the association. The committor- dl«o placed on record its regret at the inest ; mnble loss which tho eommunitv had sustained in the death of Sir Joshua Williams, and. at the same time, recorded its sense of the honour which had been conferred upon the nssocifition by having had on its list of members the name of the late judge.
