KAITANGATA NOTES.
KAITANGATA, January 31. The Church of England picnic was held at Taieri Mouth on Saturday in beautiful weather, tho picnickers being conveyed there from Titri by motor launches. About 120 went—considerably mor'e than in former years, —and the outing was a pleasing success. At the annual meeting of the Miners Union on Saturday the election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr D. MTnnes; secretary, Mr J. T. Mosley: treasurer Mr J. Richardson; executive—Messrs W. Mundy, J. Green, J. C. Allen, A. M'Lean; scrutineers for cavil, Messrs A. J. Kave and James Green; check inspectors, Messrs R, Scrapie and J. T. Mosley. The annual meeting of the Employees' Benefit Society was held on Saturday evening, the president (Mr W. Stephenson) being in" the chair. Tho balance sheet, which was adopted, showed a balance in hand of £32 9s lOd in the sick and funeral fund, while the medical and management fund disclosed a balance of £57 16s lOd in hand. The following notices of motion were carried: (1) " That this society considers the advisability of paying funeral allowance for death of a member amounting to £ls (bein<r £lO for member and £5 for member's wife), and £5 on the death of a member's wife." (2) "To consider the advisability of striking a levy of Is per member on the death of a member, and 6d per member on the death of a member's wife." The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr W. Stephenson; secretary. Mr Thomas Middlemass; treasurer, Mr W. R. Houston; auditors, Messrs W. Marsh and W. Braidwood ; General Committee—Messrs D. Howie, J. Hill, R. M'Miliar, W. J. Stephenson, Andrew Smith, D. Coulter. It was resolved that salaries remain as at present, with the exccrition that committee members receive 2s upon attendance at each meoting. It was decided to make membership compulsory in April.
