Describing the evacuation of Ghevgeli, Mr Calvert says it was attended by difficulties owing to the accumulation of Serbian stores. There • was a persistent enemy attack for 10 days, a dense fog assisting the enemy and causing the isolation of a British brigade, which was given up for lost, but which eventually regained touch with the main body. The Bulgars furiously attacked two small bridgeheads and an entrenched hill covering the retreat of the last French troops. They poured a stream of shells for two hours, and then charged uphill with the bayonet, but were disgusted to find nothing but empty trenches. TURKISH FORCES. LONDON, December 21. Le Temps (Paris) states that 11 Turkish divisions are operating in the Caucasus and 15 in the Dardanelles, while three are stationed at Smyrna, three at Jania, six in Syria, and five are moving on to Bagdad.
