PARIS, December 22. A communique states that we made progress at Hartmanns-Weilerkopf, and took prisoner 1200 of the enemy. December 23. A communique states : Our artillery exploded an ammunition depot at Bois Boughot, on the Meuse. The enemy has regained a footing in part of the trenches at Hartmanns captured on Tuesday. AMSTERDAM, December 22. A German communique states that the French captured a ridge at HartmannsWeilerkopf and recaptured a portion of a lost position. Tire French attack at Metzeral was repulsed. FRANCE’S MUNITIONS OUTPUT. ~ PARIS, December 23. Senator Berencer states that the French arsenals and factories are exceeding Germany’s output of guns and munitions, but without Great Britain’s production of high explosive chemicals and the assistance of
I the colossal British fleet, France would have been strangled at the outset. FRANCE’S WAR LOAN. PARIS, December 22. The subscriptions for the new war loan exceed 14 milliard francs (about £550,000,000). A RUSSIAN SUCCESS. PETROGRAD, December 23. A communique states : There has been vigorous fighting south-west of Oaety, with heavy enemy losses.
