FROM THE MEN OF ENGLAND

TO HER WHINING LORDS AND EDITORS. Shame to our Lords who falter! Double shame When to our trembling foemen they confess That we are baffled by his doggedness. It was not thus our fathers played the game. Our soldiers fallen; still with souls aflame They passion for Freedom, and our Lords! Ah, yes! Trusted with England’s honour and mightiness. Unworthy of her high, heroic name. The men of England under every sky Are sickened of such puling Lords to-day. To whine may not be theirs—to do or die, And this is what the men of England say: “Though steel is keen and blood is spurting red. Fight on and conquer! England is not dead!” Charles Oscar Palmer. Kaikonra Sub., September 20, 1915.
