SOME HEAVY PENALTIES.
Mr R. J. Acheson, S.M., conducted a sib ting of the Magistrate’s Court at Milton oi Saturday, when several cases under the Sal< of Food and Drugs Act_ were dealt with, and some heavy penalties inflicted. Mi MacGregor, K.C., conducted the prosecutions on behalf of the Public Health Department. In the first case heard J. B. Norrie was charged will selling milk containing a greater proportion of water than is allowed by the regulations. He was fined £2O and costs (£3 3s). M'Lood Bros., bakers, were then charged with selling light-weight broad —namely, a 41b loaf that was 2oz short weight, and a penalty of £lO and costs (£3 3s) was imposed. John Wyber, another baker, appeared in answer to a similar charge. a.nd was fined 47 and costs (£3 3s). Mr Gilray appeared for Norrie, and the other two defendants were represented by Mr Thomson.
