TAWANUI.
October 1. —The weather all throughout the Catlins district is most delightful, and has been for months now, while our neighbours in South Canterbury and North Otago are suffering from the dry spell wc in Catlins aro just revelling jn it: we are getting just sufliciont rains to keep all vegetation in a good state for growing, and I think I am safe in saying that we never had a better winter and spring. Bush-felling.—This is. proceeding slowly. No one that I know of is putting down, a largo quantity, but on every side patches of a few acres are being laid low. Lambing.—Although not a great many sheep are reared in Catlins, yet small flocks aro quite common, and lambing is well on now, being, I suppose, just about half through; gnd although it is too soon to say definitely, yet a good lambing is practically assured.
