INQUEST.
, DEATH DUE TO HEART FAILURE. An inquest was held before Mr H, Y. Widdowson, S.M., at 4 p.m. on Sept. 29 as to the circumstances of death of George Gilchrist, late of Roxburgh, who had been an inmate of the Oavcrsham Benevolent Institution since 1912. Evidence 'was given by the manager of the institution (Mrs Mee), the assistant manager (Mr Laing), Nurse Lucas, and by Dr Bowie. It was stated that up till the time the deceased, who was 78 years of age, was seen to fall from hia chair at 4.30 p.m. on Monday, it had not been necessary to call in a doctor. The deceased was of a quiet disposition He had been seen by the manager and assistant manager previously during the day, and he then appeared to be in his usual health. When he fell from his chair, while seated outside the reading room, he was noticed Nurse Lucas immediately hastened to the hospital for restoratives, and the assistant manager attended to the man, who, however, expired shortly after. Dr Bowie, who examined the body, stated that he found indications of arterio sclerosis, which would cause heart failure, to which, in his opinion, death was due. A post mortem examination was unnecessary. The Coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony
