DROUGHT IN TONGA.

AUCKLAND, September 30. The Star’s Tonga correspondent writes on September 17: “We are going through one of the longest droughts in the history of Tonga. There have been 50 deaths in Vavau through starvation and had water. The King held a big meeting, at which every taxpayer was present. All were urged to assist with food, etc. The Government intends supplying food, but there is so much delay in the relief in many cases that it may be too late. The Premier intends to visit the worst places and alleviate the distress. Tonga was never in such a bad state as at the present.
