INDIAN LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL
SIMLA, October 2,
Lord Hardinge, closing the autumn session of the Legislative Council, said he was pleased that the Hindoo University Bill had become law.
After dissentions extending over four years order had been restored in the Punjaub, which had been disturbed by emigrants returning from Canada and the United (States who were imbued with revolutionary ideas. He appreciated -the assistance given by the loyal people of the Punjaub in hunting down dangerous desperadoes. The Amir of Afghanistan, since the beginning of the war, had observed strict neutrality, and he believed that that attitude would be rigidly maintained. Lord Hardinge paid a tribute to the loyalty and patriotism India had displayed in the European war. As the war progressed the pressure was felt more and more, but they must show the world that) all attempts to create trouble and sedition in India were fruitless.
